There are so many blogs out there that it’s hard to stand out from the crowd. That’s why you need to be strategic and build content and marketing strategies. Here are some blogging tips to take your blog to the next level.
Don’t start blogging only for the money
This is one of the biggest mistakes a newbie blogger can do. You need to like writing and you should have more reasons behind it than money. Building a successful blog takes months if not years. It’s not a sprint but a marathon and you need to pace yourself. Otherwise, you’ll burn out and your blog can die out at the beginning.
Pick a niche
If you’ve been reading blogs you have probably heard the word niche everywhere. It’s one of the cornerstones for building your blog. Simply put it’s your target audience and you specialize in providing valuable and helping information for them. For example, you can pick the personal finance niche. Then you research your target audience and the problems they’re looking for answers and write a detailed post that helps them.
You should start with a niche that you have knowledge about and you’re interested in. It can be literally anything. When you find one that works for you stick to it and write regularly.
When you have blogged for a while you might think you picked a wrong niche and it’s totally okay. It happens. When you start feeling stagnant with your niche of choice think if you like some other one better.
You can ditch the old one or keep it along with the new one but don’t bite more than you can chew. That will most like end up in burn out. And your blog might get way too busy if you blog about too many things.
All that being said it’s more than okay to experiment when beginning. Not every blogger knows where they want to go with their blog. I’m one of those people. I’m still figuring out my niche(s) and experimenting while I’m starting and it’s easier. It’s trickier with a more established blog but not impossible if you ask me.
I recently found out how much I love giving blogging and productivity tips and I’m using blogging as a niche to guide my way while finding out what else to add.
Your readers will love your blog when you post regularly and provide quality content. Not to mention the search engines. Regularity helps you to rank better in the search engines and when you can rank higher even more people can find your blog more easily. Talking about this a bit more a bit further down this post.
Some people say you should blog every day but it’s not sustainable for many people. You can still blog even if you have less time. Consistency is the key here. It’s better to post once a week than disappear for weeks or months and not post anything. If you can post a new good quality post more often than once a week I really recommend you do that.
Write unique content and write for your readers
Don’t copy your posts from anyone’s blog or any other site. Write about your topics with your own words and let your unique voice come through.
Remember to write to your readers instead of search engines. Don’t keyword stuff your blog posts just to get ranked higher. More about the right usage of keywords here
Connect with other bloggers in your niche
Once you have your blog up and running start building network with other bloggers in your niche. Networking is a big part of building a successful blog. You want to get known for your knowledge and authority in your niche. But forget not to spam everyone with a link to your blog are asking for shares! It’s a big no-no and hurts your blog in the long run.
Find the most influential people in your niche and their social media. Follow them and share their content you find useful or interesting. Engage in conversations with your peers. Make connections and get to know them better.
Work on your SEO
What is SEO? It stands for search engine optimation. By optimizing your content you can get higher rankings on Google and other search engines more easily. You need to pay attention to your post titles, meta description, post URL and many other things to make sure your post is fully optimized. Here’s
a good guide for beginners. It helps you to build a strong SEO strategy and lists good resources to get started. It also goes through the basics and it’s easy to follow.
Build a social media marketing strategy
Social media is one of the biggest sources of traffic after search engines. Every blogger should take advantage of social media to drive traffic to their blog or website. A big part of building a working social media marketing strategy is to interact with others in your niche. Build connections that profit both of you. And don’t make it all about your blog and again don’t spam people’s content with a link to your blog. Remember to be respectful when communicating with others.
a good place to start figuring out a good strategy to use on your profiles.
Build a community around your blog
Make sure to answer all the comments you get and engage with the visitors. Ask your readers questions in your posts and start conversations.
Engage with other blogs in your niche. Comment on their post with valuable content about the post. Once again don’t spam your link in the comment sections of others because it’s disrespectful.
